I recently started a new tradition in our house, which I am super excited about. I have decided to have a Christmas tree that is dedicated entirely to our family. I purchased several personalized ornaments at a local craft fair this year for our “family tree,” and I plan to do so over the next few years as well. I think it will also be a great place to showcase any cute ornaments or crafts that Madeline makes for us (especially once she starts school). Since we were only a family of three until recently (Bradley, Tiffany and Lucy the dog), we didn’t have a ton of family ornaments yet. For now, I have filled the rest of the tree with cute ornaments that I had when I was single and living by myself. As the years go by, I will slowly replace these ornaments with additional family ones. Here is the one that I bought for Madeline:
I also wanted to get an ornament to show our complete family (for now). Even though I know that Lucy won’t be with us forever, and there is a good chance that we will have more children, I thought it was sweet to put everybody down for 2016.
Lucy is my “first born,” so I have an ornament dedicated to her from the year we got her at the animal shelter. I think pets add so much love to a home, so I definitely wanted to make sure that she was included in our tree.
My favorite addition was the ornament below (on the right). If you are wondering what is on the left, that is Madeline’s ornament from when I was pregnant with her. For whatever reason, her nickname was “Sprinkles” until she was born. I definitely wanted an ornament for this fun family fact so we would always remember her name. When I am much older, I will eventually give her these. I think it will be a fun family heirloom to pass on to her. 🙂
I also want to have a photo ornament of each child from their first Christmas on our tree. I am on the hunt for an ornament that I can have engraved, but for now, I just have the pictures. I can’t decide yet which one I am going to use, because I love all of them! 🙂
I think the idea of a family tree is really sweet, and I can’t wait to add to it over the years. I will do another post on this during Christmas 2017 to show you what we have added. XOXO!!!!
