Madeline’s 1st Birthday Planning – The SWEETS!!!

Mommy probably went a little crazy with the sweets for the upcoming 1st birthday party, but everything is just so cute!  🙂  I love to bake, so I am planning on making the majority of the food and sweets for Madeline’s party.  However, I am not quite brave enough to attempt a birthday cake.  I probably could have made it, but it seemed like a lot of pressure that I didn’t want to deal with (especially since we are going to have a lot of out of town guests).  We recently went to a birthday party at the zoo, and the cake was both gorgeous AND delicious (which is rare – you typically get one or the other).  I found out where the cake was purchased, and we went there the next week to book a cake for Miss Madeline.  🙂  I have said it in other posts, but just in case you haven’t heard, Madeline’s party theme is going to be “Bonnets and Bows,” and her colors are baby pink, white and vintage gold.  I wanted something super soft and sweet for the cake, with a big bow on top!  🙂  Here is a mock up of what we came up with:

We chose a white cake with simple buttercream frosting.  We had a lot of flavors to choose from, but I played it safe and picked something that most people (particularly children) like.  I also didn’t do a filling, since I was afraid that our guests wouldn’t like one.  Surprisingly, there are SO MANY shades of pink ribbon, so little miss helped me choose one (below).  I love how deep in thought she looks…….LOL!

We finally got a pink ribbon chosen….hooray!  The cake is going to be white with a light pink ribbon wrapped around the bottom.  There will be tiny pink swiss dots all over the cake, with the fondant bow on top.  They are going to air brush the bow an iridescent light pink, which should be really pretty!  There is also going to be a fondant white placard on the front, with her monogram in pink.  It should look super elegant and pretty (fingers crossed)!  🙂

Other than the cake, Mommy is going to make everything else.  🙂  As you know, cakes can be on the pricey side, so I am making up for the added cost by hand making everything else.  One cute thing I am going to make is rice crispy treats with pink chocolate sprinkled across the ends.  I think that I might switch to gold straws (since the chocolate is pink), but below is the overall idea of what I am thinking:

I found this really cool company online, called “Sweets & Treats.”  They were recommended via Instagram Story by a famous party planning blogger that I follow, so I am really excited to give this stuff a try.  Their cupcake liners are greaseproof and are supposed to not turn colors after you bake them.  I am really hoping that this is the case, so I will let you know if they work!  I went out on a whim and ordered pink and gold goodies, but I think I am going to only use the gold items for this party.  The pink stuff turned out very bright (and fun!!!), so I am excited to do something cute over the summer with my new hot pink yummies.  🙂

Here are the gold cupcake liners (below).  They are the exact gold color that I was looking for, so I REALLY hope that they work as well as people say they do.  The cupcakes will feature gold liners, white frosting, and gold sprinkles on top (from the box picture above).  The “cherry on the top” is going to be the little pink chocolate bows that I am making – Yay!!!

HOW CUTE ARE THESE (below)!?!?!?  These little pretties are what will sit on top of my cupcakes – YAY!!!!  I can’t wait to see how these are going to turn out!!!  🙂

Another yummy that I am making is the “1” suckers.  These look fancy, but they are actually really easy to make. You could just have the “1” candy by themselves, but I thought it was fun to put them on a stick.  I decided to add a bow and treat bag to make them a little fancier, but you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to – they could also be super cute just sitting out on a platter.  🙂

I know that I am doing a lot of sweets, but I have so many cute candy molds that I get to use for this party.  🙂  I am planning on having a lot of bonnets displayed (for her “Bonnets & Bows” theme), but I don’t have a lot of bows.  I am going to use the cupcakes to help make my bow theme come alive, and the “1” candies are just too cute to resist.  🙂
