Do you ever find yourself constantly buying stuff from stores like Bath & Body Works or Target without even realizing how much you already own? Do you feel that if you were to open one of your cabinets, a ton of stuff would immediately fall out on top of you? If so, then stress no longer! Here are my 5 items that you should clear out of your cabinets right now.
Candles – I know that this is completely random, but between gifts, terrific sales at Bath & Body Works and impulse purchases in general, it is very easy to accidentally collect an obscene amount of candles. This is especially true if you live in a multi-level home. Go around your house right now, collect all of the candles you can find, and put them all in one place (with the exception of the ones that you use as basic decor). Once you have done this, you will easily be able to identify how many you have. I am willing to bet that you own WAY more than you ever thought (I know that I did – haha!). If you are like me, then actually seeing all of them together will make you NOT want to buy any more until a lot of the existing ones are gone. It will make it much easier to pass up the awesome sales that are going on right now when you can visualize in your head how many you have. 🙂
Now, the fun part – Use them, and most importantly, ENJOY THEM!! You will not only be clearing out room in your home, but it will also add a little bit of luxury to your everyday life by having a scent that you love burning in the background. 🙂
Perfumes – This includes half-used regular sized bottles, as well as tiny samples that you receive in gift sets. If you really start hunting, you will probably find a ton of tiny perfume and body splash containers. Once you locate all of the small bottles, use them BEFORE ever touching another big bottle. It will be fun because you can try out a variety of scents while cleaning out space!
Sunscreen – As summer is approaching, it is definitely time to use sunscreen. However, BEFORE you go and buy a ton of bottles, first take a look at what you have leftover from last year. You likely have PLENTY of half-used bottles scattered throughout your cabinets and in your beach bags. Make sure and use those FIRST, so you can clear out space. Then, go out and buy new bottles and have some fun in the sun with your family!
Travel Sized Products – It seems like this is one area that can really add up if you don’t watch out! Between work travel, vacations and gifts, it can be SUPER EASY to load up your storage cabinets with tiny products. Do yourself a favor and put away all of your big bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. It is time to start shedding those tiny bottles out of your life. 🙂 You can always save a few for travel, but you will more than likely have WAY more than you need!
Department Store Gift Pack Samples – These little guys are great, but they can also take up a ton of room in your cabinets! Do yourself a favor and gather all of those tiny, yet wonderful, makeup items. Immediately get rid of anything that you know you will never use. I have extremely fair skin, so a lot of the items in gift packs simply do not work for me. However, they do work for my mother and niece, so I give those items to them. It is a win-win situation, because I don’t feel wasteful, and they are getting new makeup. They get a fun treat, and I get to clear out space.
For the products you will use, put up your regular sized items and use the little ones instead. It will be fun to get to try new products, and it won’t be long until you have used them up and can purge the containers.
What do you inadvertently stock up on in your own home? Whatever it may be, group like items together and start using them! I recommend using the containers with the least amount of product in them first, so you can clear out your cabinets faster. However, DON’T FORGET TO ENJOY YOUR STUFF! This is not a check-list exercise. This is just a guide to help you love what you already have and clear the clutter out of your life. Thanks for reading, and have a great day!!!!
