Inexpensive Fall Family Entertainment Ideas

Let’s face it….the holidays can be expensive.  Between buying all of that fabulous new holiday decor, food for parties, teacher gifts and presents in general, this is a very cost intensive time of year.  Although I too love all of these things, it is important to remember that everything you do does not have to be expensive!  Here are my Top Inexpensive Fall Family Entertainment Ideas and Activities:

Decorate a pumpkin for your child’s room – If they are old enough, let them help!  A pumpkin adds some Halloween holiday spirit to their room, and it makes a darling prop for pictures.  Click HERE to see how I made Madeline’s pumpkin from her first Halloween!

Find a pumpkin patch to visit – A lot of times, a visit to a patch is free, and they are SO MUCH FUN – hooray!  You can typically do additional activities for a fee, such as hay rides and face painting, but we currently stick to walking and the petting zoo since Madeline is so little (click HERE to read more about our first visit).  Although the visit is oftentimes free, if you can afford it, please still try and make some sort of purchase.  These farmers spend so much time and effort in making fun places for families to visit, so please show your appreciation by supporting their small businesses!  You can typically get great deals on pumpkins, local produce and homemade goodies too!  Here are some pics from our various pumpkin patch visits with the princess:

Watch the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown as a family – You can find it online, at the library, on tv or you can purchase it HERE to have your own copy. Even if you eat at the table every night, make an exception and have dinner in front of the television.  Pop some popcorn and make an evening of it!

Make Halloween cookies with your children with fun Halloween music playing in the background – Cookie making doesn’t have to only be for Christmas!!!!  Click HERE for a cute seasonal cookie cutter set.  Another great place to look is Hobby Lobby, especially since they will let you use 40% off coupons.  You have to watch, however, because I feel like they sometimes intentionally mark up the price knowing you have a coupon.  🙂  Target always has a nice selection too (which is where I found the ones below)!  For my go-to cookie dough recipe, see the post I wrote HERE.  I really like this recipe because you can make big batches ahead of time and freeze them.  This makes the process so much easier, which I love!

See if anywhere local is having a fall festival – Check your local newspapers and social media pages to see if any schools, churches or community groups are putting on some sort of seasonal event.  They are so much fun and can really get you into the fall spirit!

What does your family love to do in the fall?  Please let us know below, because I would love to hear your ideas!  Thanks for reading, and Happy Fall, Y’all!

I love your ideas, especially the pink pumpkin! Visiting the pumpkin patch is one of my favorite things to do each fall! When I taught Pre-K this was always a fun field trip we did. Two other fall activities we also did each year in my classroom was make homemade apple sauce (we did this in September) and roast pumpkin seeds after carving our pumpkin from the field trip. These were always a hit and I enjoy doing these now with Sam at home. Last year my brother made homemade apple butter with his family and shared some with us. It was delicious! And last year when Sam was a newborn we did a jack-o-lantern with his little baby hands and feet. It was hard to carve and it ended up being a little off in actual size but was still cute! 😂
