Now that the holiday season is over and life is calming down, I have really been focusing on things I could do to get out of the door faster. Now that I have a little one to get ready, as well as myself, it is MUCH more difficult to get out of the door in the morning. I have been examining my daily habits (as well as my entire family’s), and I have seen what has slowed me down, what creates stress in my life, and what really helps out with efficiency and time. You definitely want to start the day out like this:
And not like this:
Look at that sad little face! LOL!!! 🙂 Anyways, after a lot of planning, I have come up with these 6 easy tips to get you to work faster each morning:
The most important thing I have found is to have everything packed THE NIGHT BEFORE – This one is major and will really make a difference with your timing and the ease of your morning. Having everything ready for you makes things run so smoothly and really makes the morning pleasant. If you have a computer bag for work, have it packed and placed by the door before you go to bed. If you have a diaper bag, then have this ready too (to see what I keep stocked in my bag, click HERE). Make sure everything has been restocked (diapers, wipes, snacks, etc) and is 100% ready to go. Whatever it is that you have to take with you, have it ready to go before you even wake up. Trust me…..this will make a complete difference in your entire day!
Have your coffee programmed and any mugs/to-go cups properly staged in your kitchen – Although making a pot of coffee is not that time intensive, all of these activities together can really add minutes to your morning. There is also nothing greater than waking up to the smell of coffee, and this will start your morning off with such a pleasant atmosphere! 🙂 If you are a Keurig user, then go ahead and have your K-cup and mug ready to go. This makes coffee making super easy, and having a nice cup of coffee or tea in the morning is such a treat!
Have EVERYONE’S clothes selected, ironed and laid out – I mean everything…..down to the jewelry, socks, shoes, and hair bows! 🙂 Leaving the decision making to the night before will make your day so much easier!
Have everybody’s lunches MADE AND PACKED the night before – This is another item that will REALLY slow you down in the mornings, if you aren’t careful. There is no need to do it in a hurry, when it could already be packed the evening before. This is especially true if you cook at home. As you are plating your dinner, go ahead and spoon out extra portions in a travel container and place it in the fridge (in your lunch bag). You will already have all of the food out for dinner, so this makes preparing your family’s lunches a snap!
P.S. – Don’t forget to put a note by the door reminding you to grab your lunch box before leaving. That food isn’t going to do you a lot of good if it accidentally stays home the next day (I am speaking from experience)! 🙂
Have your car FUELED and ready to go – Please do not wait to get gas in the morning! This will slow down your progress and is a major time sink! You definitely don’t want to be running behind and suddenly realize that you need to stop at a gas station on the way to work. This can cause you a lot of stress that is really unnecessary. Do yourself a favor and do this the night before! It really will help with getting your day off to a good start.
Have your keys out and ready to go – There is nothing more irritating to me than trying to leave, but not being able to, because I can’t find my keys. This can put me in a bad mood faster than anything, so I have come up with a solution. Have a spot dedicated in your house where you place items that you are constantly losing. Whether it be a bowl, a certain dresser, etc., always put that item in the same spot. That way, you know exactly where to go when you are getting ready to leave. It can be super frustrating to be holding a baby and trying to find your keys at the same time – TRUST ME!!! Do yourself a favor and have them laying out in an obvious location.

Choosing an outfit is hard for me. I will often times change clothes 2-3 times, so I try to decide what I am wearing the next day. I sometimes will even load the car up the night before…backpacks, snack bags, school projects, and things that need to go to work so I don’t have to load them in the morning.
Yes! I love all of this and 100% agree! 🙂 Thanks for your comment!
